Paul Lougrat /
Maria Kontorravdis

Paul and Remy first crossed paths at the Artesian — then one of the most celebrated bars in the world. While working side by side, they bonded over a shared vision: to create a bar that wasn’t just about great drinks, but also about bridging the worlds of design, community, and culture. The Bauhaus art movement came early in their conversations. Inspired by the clean lines, functional beauty, and emphasis on collaborative creation, they saw Bauhaus not just as an aesthetic, but as a guiding framework for how the bar itself should operate. This formed the foundation of A Bar with Shapes for a Name.

Maria joined the pair to open the bar and bring the vision to life. As a founding member, she plays a pivotal role in shaping its identity, focusing on conceptual coherence, and creative expression. Her work extends to the bar's educational programs, notably the 'Preliminary Course,' which offers workshops exploring the fundamentals of flavor through the lens of the Bauhaus art movement.
